CODE OF CONDUCT

Comhaltas Event Code of Conduct & Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy

Our Mission

Comhaltas San Diego is dedicated to providing a harassment- and discrimination-free, inclusive event environment for all persons participating in Comhaltas events and/or activities regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category. We do not tolerate harassment of, or discrimination towards, event participants in any form. Comhaltas San Diego takes violations of our policy seriously and will respond appropriately.

Expected Behaviors

All participants of Comhaltas San Diego’s events and/or activities must abide by the following policies:

- Respecting Each Other

We want the event to be a positive experience for everyone regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category. This requires that all participants, including those leading the event and/or activity, are treated with respect. Participants should understand and acknowledge that everyone deserves to be here—and each of us has the right to enjoy our experience without fear of harassment or discrimination of any kind.

- Speaking Up

If you see or hear something that you believe to be inappropriate, report it immediately by sending an email to comhaltas.sandiego@gmail.com. Harassment/discrimination is not tolerated.

You are encouraged to—if it is comfortable for you to do so—express your discomfort or disagreement with the person engaging in inappropriate or disrespectful conduct, whether that conduct is directed towards you or another person. It may be that the person making you feel uncomfortable, or engaging in inappropriate conduct, is not aware of the impact of what they are doing. If you feel comfortable doing so, politely bringing their behavior to their attention is encouraged.

If a participant engages in harassing, discriminating, or other inappropriate behavior, the event/activities organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning or expelling the offender from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed or feel uncomfortable, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the person in charge of the event or activity or a Comhaltas board member.

- Participation

Participation in any Comhaltas event or activity is voluntary, and pressure to participate in any aspect of the activity is not tolerated. No physical contact—including but not limited to contact involved in dancing—may occur without the consent of all participants. This extends to the consent of minors.

If you feel that you are being pressured into engaging in an activity that you do not want to do, you are encouraged to politely decline to participate. If you are at any point told “no” by any participant, you must comply immediately with the request.

Unacceptable Behaviors

  • Harassment is not tolerated. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, verbal language and/or conduct directed towards or about another related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

  • Jokes and/or comments that demean individuals or any member of the groups identified above. Consider what you are saying and how it would feel if it were said to you or about you. Further, in consideration of others’ opinions, care should be taken when engaging in political discussions.
